Use Google Drive as a Mounted Drive on your PC

Google Drive is a great online storage/cloud service which offers several gigabytes on their free plan and “unlimited” storage for the premium plan. However, it sucks that if you want to access files on your Google Drive you have to log into the Drive on your favourite browser or you have to sync Google Drive to your PC, which means all files from Google Drive will be synced or downloaded onto your PC. That sucks. What I want is to access Google Drive like its just another hard drive on my PC. Well, there is a way to do that.

RaiDrive is a great and free tool that you can use to connect various online storage drives to your PC and access it like it’s just a normal hard drive. To use the tool, you’ll want to head on over to https://raidrive.en.uptodown.com/windows/download and click on the Download button.

Make sure you meet the additional software requirements. You can download them here:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x86)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x64)
.NET Framework 4.8 (Runtime) or later

Next you run the freshly downloaded RaiDrive application, choose your language and choose the installation path/folder. Make sure to check that you read the license agreement.

Next launch RaiDrive (desktop or quickstart) and click on the “Add” button in the top right corner.

Next, choose which type of Drive you have (personal, business, enterprise, etc.). Keep everything else as is and then click on “OK”. Your browser will then take you to Google Drive where you have to type in your e-mail address and give access to RaiDrive to use your Google Drive. Allow this. Finally, head on over to “This PC” and check out RaiDrive:

And viola, you are done. You can now use your Google Drive as a normal hard drive on your PC. You can install software onto your Google Drive, copy files, stream videos, etc. It’s great little tool.
